Foreword
"Everywhere they went they wrought change, not all for

could not have forseen on our own? Or were they a band of Holy Fools, stumbling
through the lands like drunken carousers, leaving the brand of the Mad One on
every bridge they burned to the ground? An equal measure of both, I think; while
no-one can deny the good they brought to these mountains, it would be equally

Introduction
A Brother's Passage
"Perhaps it was because, as Aaron claimed, he wanted Arro to be captain
in his place, and needed to learn to take his duties more seriously. Perhaps
it was because Arro favored his mother to the extent that he did, and that reminder
caused Aaron pain. Whatever the case, one night the argument ended with Arro
heading out the door, never to return. Aaron hadn't spoken his name since."
Fool's Gold
"In the end, Vortigar Hall was lucky: Thorga Getad-son
and those who worked with him were lost to the waters, but those working in
other passages were spared. It was a powerful blow to Getad's pride, however,
and many muttered privately that the loss of his ore wounded him more than the
loss of his blood."
